In late 2004, Jackson County Right to Life sponsored a billboard on Highway 62, inbound to Medford from Costco, on the right side. The billboard featured Jennifer O'Neill, spokeswoman for the non-profit Silent No More. Silent No More is a gathering of women who have experienced the long-term pain of abortion and are speaking out. If you were stopped at the light at Delta Waters, you had time to ponder that billboard directly in your line of sight.
Our billboard had an immediate impact. Within days of its start, a woman who had an abortion fifteen years ago saw it and called the 800 number on the billboard. She was given a local counseling resource, whom she contacted. She was very emotional as she spoke with the counselor and related that she had been living with the pain and agony of her abortion, keeping it a secret all the while, for that whole time. A billboard message reaches many people, and this one was well-placed on the busiest highway in the region.
In late 2005, we ran a similar billboard with more graphic impact (two months sponsored by two local women). The cost for the most recent billboard was $750 per month.
