ELIMINATING TAXPAYER FUNDING FOR ABORTION
Background: Beginning in February 2010, we invited pro-lifers to join us for a monthly 2-hour picket of Planned Parenthood's Ashland facility, protesting the distribution of the chemical abortifacient RU-486. In addition to being an abortifacient, RU-486 poses life-threatening health risks that Planned Parenthood is not disclosing. There is no question that the easy availability of RU-486 in a college town will increase the number of abortions committed in Jackson County. We know that accessibility is a key to abortion numbers, and RU-486 is easily accessible. And so, Jackson County Right to Life determined that picketing the Ashland PPF Clinic was necessary. Despite the importance of the issue of RU-486, in February 2011 we changed our picket site to the Planned Parenthood Medford facility and shortening the picket window to ONE HOUR ONLY (Noon to 1 p.m.). We also modified the focus of the picket to the issue of funding. Many people don't realize that federal tax dollars provide 1/3 of Planned Parenthood's budget.
